Troyan Municipality is located at the foot of Stara Planina mountain. Troyan is situated 160 km northeast of Sofia and 22 km from the Troyan pass in the Balkan Mountains. Ski area is located 20 km from Troyan. The complex encompasses skiing facilities and a skiing school during the winter. Beklemeto offers a ski slope for downhill and slalom races.
In the 19th century a huge market-place grew up near the Troyan Monastery, with its tradition very much alive today. Each and every year from June through September - thousands of people flock to the Fair of Traditional Crafts in the village of Oreshak, where work by leading Bulgarian folk artists is on sale. The delicate earth tones – yellow, brown and green prevailed but in the following years the competition in that field led to changes in the traditional Troyan pottery pattern.
