Located in the southwestern part of the country, in Dzherman river valley, the town of Dupnitsa is part of Kyustendil Municipality. Dupnitsa is a settlement since the Stone Age, and during the Roman Empire it was an important roadside town. In the region could be found several medieval churches, an old clock tower, several Roman tomb mounds and remains of the Thracian culture. Dupnitsa is located at the foot of Rila mountain, near the border with Macedonia. The town is approximately 50 km from the capital Sofia and 30 km from the town of Blagoevgrad. Not far from here are the winter resorts Borovets (50 km) Panichishte (15 km) and Bansko (80 km). The region is also close to Rila Monastery, the Seven Rila lakes, as well as the hottest geyser in Europe. In the town are available several churches and chapels, a gallery, many shops and cafes.
