Evksinograd is located on the Black Sea coast, 8 kм north of downtown Varna. The complex used to be a royal summer residence for the monarchs Alexander Battenberg, Ferdinand and Boris the 3rd. Splendid three storey residence was modelled after the French 18th-century château style, with a high metal-edged French-style mansard roof, figured brickwork and a clock tower.The palace park is an integral component of the Evksinograd complex designed by French park architects in 1888. The project involved a rare tree species collection – from black oak to Atlantic cedar, which are the only species on the Balkan Peninsula. In 1891 a palace winery was built as a part of the complex and a successor of the old monastery cellar. The wines and brandies of Evksinograd are nowadays known for their excellent quality. Currently, Evksinograd is a governmental and presidential retreat hosting cabinet meetings in the summer and offering access for tourists to several villas and hotels.
