Wizz Air flights London-Sofia at 29 Eur

2005-06-22   |  www.WizzAir.com

Wizz Air, the largest low fare - low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, at a press conference in Sofia on 16 June 2005 announced that it would start flights from Sofia to Budapest and would also offer connections to London and Frankfurt from 18 September 2005.

Wizz Air becomes the first low cost airline to enter the Bulgarian market, the EU member candidate expected to join the European Union in 2007.

The launch in Bulgaria comes just a little over 1 year after the successful establishment of Wizz Air in Hungary and Poland. Since the start of operations in May 2004, Wizz Air has carried close to 1.4 million passengers, thus becoming the undisputed market leader in the fast growing low cost air travel sector in these countries.

Bulgarian operation will start on 18 September 2005 initially with 3 weekly flights from Sofia to Budapest. Tickets for the flights from Sofia to Budapest as well as to London and Frankfurt are already on sale on the airline’s website, wizzair.com regular fares are starting from as low as 19.99 euros and 29.99 euros (one way, excluding taxes and charges), respectively.

For the launch of the new flights Wizz Air made 10,000 promotional tickets available for 1 euro (taxes and charges are to be paid) for travel between 18 September 2005 and 25 March 2006.

József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air said: "The Bulgarian market entry represents a strategic move for Wizz Air that will expand its operations in Eastern Europe, beyond the boundaries of the EU. Shortly the citizens of Bulgaria will benefit from Wizz Air’s low fares and comfortable customer services which will undoubtedly revolutionize air travel in the country. Wizz Air will change the travel industry here for the benefit of the country and the people of Bulgaria."
"This is our first step in Bulgaria. We aim at becoming the largest airline of all in this market within 3 years by flying millions of travellers in and out of this country."
