2014-03-24   |  www.sofiautre.bg

Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia will have some 100 km new cycle lanes by the end of 2015. So far approximately 30 km of cycle lanes have been constructed. The news was announced by Lyubomir Hristov, Deputy Mayor of Sofia Municipality.

According to him there will be cycle facilities in most of the places that are undergoing renovation now and in the areas where new streets and boulevards are being constructed. This corresponds to the implementation of a new programme concerning the development of Sofia bikeway infrastructure and the intention of Sofia Municipality to promote the usge of bicycles.

Currently Sofia municipality are finishing a tender for the reconstruction of the park in front of the National Palace of Culture (NPC) and within the project will be build cycle lanes around the NPC, Patriarh Evtimii Blvd. and Vitosha Blvd. The idea is the new bike lane along the Vitosha Blvd. to be linked with the entrance of the South Park, and then to be connected with the cycle lane along Gotse Delchev Blvd. and Tsar Boris III Blvd. A new cycle lane will be constructed on Rakovski Str. and it will be connected to the existing one on Evlogi and Hristo Georgiev Blvd.

"We have already built such a cycle lane on Bulgaria Blvd. last year. We aim to ensure utmost safety on all cycle lanes", said Deputy Mayor.
