Sofia to Reach the Balkan Mountains
Sofia will enlarge to the north, towards and on the slopes of the Balkan Mountains, believe architects and designers who plan the city's future. There is much land used so far for industrial needs only. Experts reckon this will hardly be an obstacle to the construction of residential and administrative complexes. Foreign investors have already expressed interest in Sofia's northern suburbs. Minko Gerdjikov, acting Sofia mayor says that the big golf complex near Katina, to be soon built by Spanish investors, evidences investors' interest in the region. Vitosha Mountain bars the development of Sofia to the south. To the north, towards the foot of the Balkan Mountains, there is enough territory which is an alternative for the enlargement of Bulgaria's capital.
