Belogradchik Fortress Attracts More&More Tourists
Approximately 5000 tourists more have visited Belogradchik in the first half of 2007 compared to the same period in 2006.
This is a nearly double increase of the tourist flow compared to last year.
Till 22 August the historic masterpiece “Belogradchik Fortress” and the Belogradchik rocks are visited by 23 037 tourists, of whom 3 631 are foreigners. In 2006, the tourists exploring the place were 18 014.
“Belogradchik fortress” is one of the best-preserved strongholds in Bulgaria and a cultural monument of national importance. This ancient stronghold had been built among the unreachable rocks, when the Balkan Peninsula was within the confines of the Roman Empire (III century A.D.). The Vidin Tzar Ivan Sratzimir had used it as a mansion during the XIII century. Its present appearance is dated back from 1805-1837, when the Turks rebuilt it.
Nearly 10 000 tourists have visited the “Magura” cave in the first half of this year compared to 13 460 for the whole 2006.
