Bridge link worth 236 MLN Euros will be constructed in Vidin
Construction of a new Danube bridge connecting the Bulgarian city of Vidin with the Romanian port of Calafat is expected to begin in early 2007 and to be completed in 2009. The bridge structure across the river Danube is worth 236 mln Euros and co-financed by the Europeran Union's "Instrument for Structural Policies for Pre-Accession (ISPA)" programme, The European Investment Bank, the Agence Francaise de Developpement and the German KfW banking group, together with the Government of Bulgaria.
The new bridge link will provide an important link in the transport infrastructure of both Bulgaria and Romania, and will form part of the southern branch of the pan-European transport Corridor number IV. It will provide for both road and rail links. Bulgaria and Romania will jointly operate and maintain the bridge.
This massive investment will boost the local industry and tourism in the next 4 years and will turn this area into one of the most important areas for foreign investors.
