TUNNEL UNDER THE DANUBE TO CONNECT BULGARIA AND ROMANIA

2007-06-06   |  news.bg

Bulgarian company “Eurobridge” and the German construction company “Herrenknecht” will build a tunnel connecting Bulgaria and Romania, announced SeeNews, cited by Dnevnik.bg. The two companies have signed a preliminary agreement for constructing a tunnel, which will pass under the Danube river. The contract value will be $ 35 M, points the executive director of “Eurobridge” Dobromir Donkov. Exact price will be determined after the final assessment of the project.

According to the initial plans the tunnel will connect Silistra with Kulurashi. Romania has already started the building of another bridge between Vidin and Calafat.

The tunnel is expected to attract traffic from transport corridor N9 as well as to be an alternative to corridor N4. “Eurobridge” however, will have to get the permission from the governments of both countries.
