Hotel Sector in Bulgaria Remains Stable in 2009
Although the negative effect of the recession in Europe is felt in Bulgaria as well the number of tourists who visited the country in 2008 has increased by 8.4%, PropertyWire writes citing National Statistics Institute data.
This brings hope to hotel owners that may be they will be able to overcome the economic slowdown expected this year.
This year the tourist sector in Bulgaria is expected to generate approximately 4 billion Euro half of which will come from foreign tourists and the other half from Bulgarian ones, experts forecast.
“However, the money which the government plans to spend on advertising Bulgaria abroad is too little”, says Joseph Upchurch – director of building company Aston Lloyd.
“Regretfully, most of the big international chains of hotels still do not have representations in Bulgaria”, he adds.
However, this is about to change. Four of the largest chains of hotels - Marriott, Hyatt, Movenpick and Intercontinental plan to enter the Bulgarian market by opening offices in Sofia.
