Melnik is an old wine center. Melnik wine was highly appreciated at the market of Thessalonica. The town has been popular as a wine-growing region since l346. Steep, strangely shaped sandstone rocks, lovely white houses perched on their slopes and a single street leads to the finest example of the former splendour of this small southern town.
