Vidin - Hidden Potential and Possibilities

2008-11-07   |  Velimira Dimitrova, BULGARIAN PROPERTIES

In the last few years Vidin is turning from a town positioned at end of the list of the fast developing Bulgarian towns and cities into a place attracting more and more investments. The reason for that is not only the reviving economy in the town but also the beginning of the long-awaited construction of Danube Bridge 2 which started this year and is expected to finish in 2010.

The excellent economical and infrastructural development of the town, as well as the ever increasing investor interest towards purchasing real estate in the area turn Vidin into one of the main areas of focus in the country. That is why in the beginning of October BULGARIAN PROPERTIES opened its own office in the town of Vidin with the following contact details:

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE TOWN OF VIDIN

Industry

Currently Vidin is a town which has no hypermarkets but by the end of this year three big hypermarkets are expected to start operating there. The first to step on the Vidin market will be the Piccadilly chain of supermarkets as the store will be located in Vidin Mall in the center of the town. Next will come the hypermarket Technopolis selling white goods, brown goods, office and IT equipment whose construction started in early August on a plot of land near Vidin. The hypermarket is expected to be ready in early December. The investment in the Vidin Technopolis will amount to 5 million BGN. The first hypermarket of the Technomarket chain is to open its doors in Vidin in December as well. The investors started the construction of the site at fast pace in August.

Soon the Southern Industrial Zone of Vidin is to house a new trading area. The first modern trade center will be named Aquario Shopping Centre Vidin. Its total built-up area is planned to be 36,031 sq.m. and the area to be rented out – 29,118 sq.m. The shopping center is to house over 100 shops, a few restaurants, cafes and fast food restaurants. The international supermarket chain Metro also has plans to invest in Vidin but after 2010.

Tourism

The region of Vidin has always attracted many tourists as their number is expected to increase significantly after the opening of Danube Bridge 2. One of the more important projects related to the region’s development is the opening of Vidin Airport which is a priority project for the local administration. The airport will make the region accessible for more tourists not only from Bulgaria but also from abroad because the region has a lot to offer.

The River Danube offers great conditions for water tourism. Along the Danube you can take pleasure in the beautiful nature traveling towards the Black Sea or towards the heart of Europe.

Cave Tourism
The Magoura Cave is a magnificent natural phenomenon and one of the biggest caves in Bulgaria – the total length of the galleries discovered so far amount to about 2,500 meters. The rock drawings found in the Magoura Cave date back to the 8th century BC and are unique masterpieces of prehistoric art for Southeastern Europe.

SPA Tourism
A spring with highly mineralized thermal water was found on the territory of Vidin, close to the village of Slanotrun as the spring is suitable for SPA and medical procedures. The temperature of the water is about 41°С and is said not only to relax the body and mind but to have curative powers as well.

Rural Tourism
The region of Vidin has magnificent nature and a number of historical sights which are a prerequisite for the development of rural tourism. The attractive villages scattered around the region offer tranquility, clean air and hospitality.
