02.02.2010 Developing SPA Tourism in Sofia

VisitBulgaria.NET

Sofia Municipality is considering the drafting of a big international project for turning the capital Sofia into a popular SPA destination.

There are about 50 hydrothermal finds including the natural springs, the drillings and the reservoirs. The hot mineral waters encompass almost the whole of Sofia valley and its adjacent territories or a total of 1,100 square kilometers. A considerable part of these waters come from a great depth which is a guarantee that they are ecologically clean.

The capital’s development plan includes the successive construction and development of 3 centers for the extraction and use of the mineral water. One of them will be set in the periphery of Sofia, another to the south of it – around the mountains of Vitosha and Lozenska and the third – to the north of the city in the direction of Stara Planina Mountain. A group of centers is to be built within the city as well.

At the same time the project will include the renovation of some of the old springs. The prophylactics and the health procedures in the new centers will be combined with active relaxation.
