Plovdiv Region

2006-10-04   |  John Lindley, Bulgarian Properties, Plovdiv office, 11th January, 2006

The Plovdiv region occupies over one seventh of all the arable land in Bulgaria and also has a very large industrial sector. Foreign investors, especially from the United States of America, are interested in gaining an advantage by moving their companies here due to the favourable social and economic conditions of the region. When Bulgaria enters European Union in 2007 certain restrictions will be lifted making this country and the Plovdiv region especially, a more favourable place to live and work. The region of Plovdiv covers a very large area and places like Assenovgrad, Kaloyanovo and Hissar are certain to benefit from the changes that are about to happen since they already have well developed infrastructures firmly in place.

Assenovgrad with a population of over 52 000 already has a reasonably good health service: a major hospital and five health centres - it is acknowledged as being particularly good for women and children’s health. A good educational system is also firmly in place as there is a social security network which caters for the unemployed, minority groups, large families, invalids and the aged. As well as the usual attractions that a major town provides like bars, cafes, restaurants, museums, sports and traditional folk song choirs it also has interesting flora and fauna. In the surrounding areas large mammals like deer, wild boars and bears are common place.

In Kaloyanovo- a big village which is a municipality, there is a thriving business community dealing in the fruit, vegetable and herb processing industries. On a smaller scale there are privately owned companies dealing with leather goods and garment production which have a lot of scope for development and in the agricultural sphere there is grain, crops, vegetables, sheep and cattle breeding.

The spa resort Hissar- with its unique combination of history, mineral springs, climate and local flora and fauna has to be considered as an ideal place to live though it has a population of about 16 000 it still has all the amenities that the larger towns in the region provide.

Prices for properties vary in the region of Plovdiv depending on the services that the numerous towns and villages provide. Out of the way properties are bound to be cheaper and will not increase in value as much as those that are situated near or in a major town or village but the choice is there for those that prefer solitude to town and village life.
