Nearly 4 million foreigners visit Bulgaria in 2006

2006-09-28   |  The Sofia Echo, 26th September 2006

A total of 3 716 193 foreigners visited Bulgaria from January to September 2006, State Agency for Tourism head Mario al-Djebouri said.

The figures were 5.8 per cent higher the percentages for the same period last year, he said.

More than 2.5 million people visited the country on holidays, Bulgarian National Radio said. The increase was 8.3 per cent if compared to figures for last year.

The worldwide decrease in the number of German tourist visits, due to the FIFA World Cup 2006, affected Bulgaria as well, al-Djebouri said.

More tourists form Russia, Britain, Ireland, Scandinavian countries, Serbia and Montenegro visited Bulgaria this year.

Bulgaria's revenue form international tourist visits was 1160.6 million euro, preliminary data showed.

The state and tourism sector representatives had to prepare a strategy for improving the quality of tourist service, al-Djebouri said.
