NEW SKI RESORT NEAR BERKOVITSA TO BE BUILT IN THE NEXT THREE YEARS

The establishment of “Kom 2016” Joint stock Company was fact on December 6, 2006. This marks the start of the procedures for the development of the sport tourism centre “Berkovitsa Balkan”. The Joint Stock Company is already a fact, but we must proceed with fast temps, because this is just the beginning, said engineer Dotsov. Our next goal is to develop the complete territory plan for the construction of the first seat lift. We are sure that together we will be able to complete the construction of the lift by September 2007.

The plans for the next stages are already prepared. The first stage will be the territory plans for the construction of buildings, included in the Complete Territory Plan of Ski Zone Kom.

The first stage /2007 - 2009/ from the plans for Sport Tourism centre “Berkovitsa Balkan” includes the reconstruction of Kom chalet. New hotels with additional 100 beds will be constructed, which aims to develop the already existing hotels. The hotels will work all year round.

The municipal has completed a majour tourism project – eco park “Kom - Petrohan”, which provided perfect conditions for development of spring and summer tourism with its 72 kilometers tourism trails and mountain bike roads.

This stage also includes the construction of the first lift from Kom chalet to Central Kom with the nearby situated slopes.

The project is expected to have huge social impact as 2000 new working places. As a whole this is expected to improve the infrastructure and the quality of lifestyle in the municipal.
