Bansko Will Have a Second Ski Lift

2018-01-09   |  BULGARIAN PROPERTIES

There will be a second ski lift in Bansko. This will happen in case of declared investment interest, became clear from the briefing of Neno Dimov at the Council of Ministers.

The Minister said that the lift will be built in compliance with the eco-requirements - "Every investor's interest will go through all environmental legislation," the minister assured, explaining that it includes environmental impact assessment as well.

The decision to build a second lift is taken by the Government with amendments and additions to the Pirin National Park Management Plan in the section "Norms, regimes, conditions and recommendations for the implementation of the activities".

The project for the change of the Management Plan was submitted by the Municipality of Bansko and was discussed at a meeting of the Supreme Expert Environmental Council at the Ministry of Environment and Water. It is in line with the decisions of the World Heritage Committee, which allow the development of ski facilities in the so-called "buffer zone" of the World Heritage Site - Pirin, which coincides with the tourist zone, for which the approved changes apply, said the press center of the Council of Ministers. The changes will allow the municipality of Bansko to draw up a plan for the development of the tourist zone, including the ski area above the city, which covers only 2% of the Pirin National Park.

The Cabinet has instructed the Minister of Environment and Water, in the presence of investment interest in the construction of a new tourist ski cabin line in the Bansko Ski Area and its accompanying infrastructure, to take urgent action to coordinate all necessary spatial plans and investment proposals with the environmental legislation.
