Japan Planning to Build Huge Solar Park in Yambol, Bulgaria
Japanese Toshiba and the Tokyo Electric Power Company are to receive the support of the Japanese government to build one of the biggest solar power plants in the world in Bulgaria. The power plant is to be built in the Bulgarian town of Yambol by March 2012 and it will cost over 100 billion Japanese yen (1.2 billion USD), AFP reports. Information about the project was announced last August but according to the perimeters announced then the power station was a lot smaller.
As a EU member state Bulgaria must increase the number of its renewable energy sources fast in order to decrease its carbon dioxide emissions. With the aid of the Japanese technology Bulgaria’s target is to ensure 16% of its electricity consumption from renewable energy sources compared to the present 7%.
The power plant will start with a capacity of about 50 MW as it will be constantly increased to reaching 250 MW in 5 years.
