The Longest Bicycle Path in Bulgaria to Be in Southern Bulgaria
The longest bicycle path in Bulgaria will be constructed after a project for widening and reconstruction of the road from the village of Smilyan to the town of Rudozem (southern Bulgaria, close to the Greek border), the Mayor of Rudozem Nikolay Boyadzhiev announced.
The bicycle path will be 2.5 m wide and will go all along the road whose length is 8.5 km. At present the plots next to the road are being appropriated. The total width of the road will be 10.5 m, as in addition to the two road lanes of 3 meters each there will be lay-bys and sidewalks. The repair works and the widening of the road, as well as the construction of the bicycle path, are expected to start in May-June 2010.
