27.04.2007 Hotel accommodation with 5000 beds will be constructed near Dospat dam

Hotels and villas with a capacity of over 3000 beds are now being constructed in close vicinity to the Dospat Dam. Thus a brand new village will emerge town close to the dam, which may be bigger than Dospat town itself. The number of residents in Dospat is 3500 people. Although it is a huge tourism centre now with 1270 beds in hotels, holiday homes and houses, it will soon be transformed into even more attractive tourism destination.

Enterprisers, who already own hotels along the Black sea coast and Pamporovo, are already buying land plots close to the dam for vacation villages. The dam is situated on 1200 metres above the sea level and is among the highest situated dams in the country. It is the second largest dam in the country, following Iskar dam.

Most of the projects are planning the construction of low houses, scattered along the nearby hills.

The largest land plot in the site is owned by Mr Bozhidar Kunov.

Several other companies are trying to joint land plots to create larger lots and until the present moment each of them owns around 10 decares, close to the dam. The enterprisers plan to invest over 10 million BGN in the site for the next 2 years. The investors’ interest in the region gets higher every single day, said the mayor of Dospat Mr Krasimir Dolev. Investors are mainly interested in that part of the dam, which is closer to Dospat. The terrains are still not regulated and the construction works are delayed.
The terrains in the direction of Sarntisa village are soon about to be sold, due to the high demand. The land plots close to Dospat are being sold for about 35E per square metre, pointed Mr Silko Pashmov, deputy mayor of the municipal.

Fishermen with lower financial recourses also invest in the region. Usually a fishermen company cooperates to buy a plot for construction of a mutual villa. The dam is one of the very well bred with different kinds of fish.

During the recent years Dospat has become one of the favorite sites for tourism for Bulgarian tourists. During the previous summer the number of tourists in the site exceeded 10 thousand people. Numerous tourists from Greece, who are reaching the dam in half an hour through the new custom Gotse Delchev – Drama- just 50 km away from the dam. A lot of tourists from France, Germany, Spain, Porugal and Israel also prefer Dospat dam for their vacation.
