German retailer Metro to open store in Veliko Tarnovo

German wholesale retailer Metro Cash&Carry has started the construction of a hypermarket in Veliko Tarnovo, Northern Bulgaria. The outlet, the company's 9th in Bulgaria, should be ready by the end of 2007. It will carry 25,000 food and 20,000 non-food items. The 30 mln lev Metro store will have a retail floor area of 7,000 sq m and 400 parking spaces.

Metro opened its 8th outlet in Bulgaria in 2006 after two years of no store openings.
The German self-service wholesaler set foot on the Bulgarian market in 1999 with stores in Sofia, Plovdiv and Ruse. It was the first international retail chain to enter the local market.
Earlier this year, Metro's Bulgarian office was involved in the launch of the company's first outlet in Pakistan. The Bulgarian team was in charge of the training of the Pakistani staff
