The top-20 sand-and-sun getaways picked by Brits show that Bulgaria's Black Sea Coast offered the best beaches, reads Daily Mirror. Bulgaria gave the dust to two of the world's most famous beaches – those in Sidney and Rio de Janeiro, which are at the bottom of the list.

The list is based on a series of criteria including value for money and security, as the destinations were also judged on flight costs, accommodation, attractions and exchange rates.

Bulgaria's Black Sea Coast scored 70.98 out of 100, while North Tunisia was second with 69.10 and Turkey came third with 68.72.

Some of the main reasons for Bulgaria’s high score are the good value for money and affordability, which is something British holidaymakers seem to be more cost-conscious about than ever.
