“Air Sofia” will construct its fourth golf course in Bulgaria

Dir.bg, 8th July 2006

The Bulgarian air - plane company “Air- Sofia” started the preparation for the construction of a brand new golf course with 18 wholes at the foot of Lulin Mountain, nearby Sofia, announced the head of the company Lilian Todoroff. The project is planned to be completed by the next summer. The company has already bought 700 decares of land. The land plots are situated just 11 kilometers away from Sheraton hotel in Sofia. The executor of the project is the Bulgarian Society for Construction of Golf Courses- “Golf Creation”. At the present moment “Air Sofia” plans to employ the American designer Bill Amik, the ex- president of the American association of the architects of Golf courses, for the idea project of the golf course.

The golf course in Lulin Mountain is the fourth projecteded by Air Sofia for the last six years. The company manages two complexes in Ihtiman and Sliven. At the moment the company is preparing a golf course in Razgrad. Bill Amick, who has made the projects for 75 golf courses all over the world, compares the terrain nearby Sofia with a similar one he has projected some years ago in the French part of Luxemburg. “The terrain is very attractive, commented Amick. It allows diverse, tempting and picturesque shaping of the sites, where the wholes will be situated. It is of great importance for the good courses, the wholes to be placed in correspondence with the outlines and characteristics of the land plots”, explained he during his second stay in Sofia. Nearby the golf course terrains for the construction of private villas and apartments, as well as a super modern SPA center with mineral water are planned. The president of “Air Sofia” refused to comment the exact amount of the investment for their project. “It became a practice huge amount of money to be mentioned, when constructing golf course, which is amusing even for the biggest investors in golf courses around the world. It is considered that the announced seven digits are unrealistically high”. “During the past six years the number of golfers in Bulgaria raised several times; however the golf courses can not rely only on the revenues from the game itself”. Additional funds are gained by corporative sport events, which include other sport equipment for tennis, football, horseback riding, and swimming, together with the golf package, added Todoroff.
