EU Grants Funds to Renovate Old Houses in Lom

Standart News, 10th October 2005

"Sixty-five old houses, built in the Viennese style, will be renovated with funds granted by the EU" Mayor of the Danube city of Lom Penka Penkova said yesterday.
The funds will be allotted under the Phare programme. The Municipality of Lom made a list of the old buildings, which need to be refurbished. A few days ago, the buildings were inspected by representatives of the European Commission in Bulgaria.
The houses - most of them built at the beginning of the 20th century - are the proof of close historical ties Lom has with Europe. The well-to-do citizens brought architects from Austria, Belgium and Germany to work out the plans of their houses.
