Bulgarian ski resort Bansko now a citywide WiMAX hotspot

Nexcom Bulgaria, the local telecom operator, said it has provided a blanket WiMAX coverage in ski resort Bansko. Nexcom said it picked Bansko for the deployment of its pilot point-to-multipoint network for its compact urban development and because its telecom infrastructure was overdue for an upgrade. The complaint of the hotel owners was that the city's high-density buildings made for a spotty telecom coverage, said Nexcom marketing manager Milko Georgiev.

The Nexcom base station installed in Bansko in late 2006 also provides coverage in nearby Dobrinishte, Bania and Razlog.
