The southern Bulgarian municipality of Bansko plans to build an inner airport that will accept planes from EU countries, news.bg announced on Tuesday.
The mayor of Bansko Alexander Kravarov took part in a forum on airport projects where had talks with US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) representatives and officials from the Trade department of the US Embassy in Bulgaria.
The airport construction that may accept Boeing 737 and Airbus was discussed, news.bg added.
If the project is approved USTDA will grant leva (BGN) 300,000 (EUR 153,093; US$ 195,045) for pre-project researches and economic analyses, the Bansko municipality announced.
Such an airport will support the further tourism development and will give broader perspectives for the entire region. The Municipality that hosts one of the most famous ski resorts in Bulgaria plans to participate in the next conference of that type in Croatia.
Bansko will invest about BGN 10 million (EUR 5.1 million; US$ 6.5 million) in the construction of new infrastructure in the resort, Kravarov announced in December 2005.
