Located 38 km from Ruse, Brushlen village is part of Northern Bulgaria and since year 2005 is included in the project "Wetlands" in the country. The project aims for the drained fields near the Danube river to be flooded again and to become habitat for birds. The village was founded about two centuries ago by immigrants from the mountain area of Elena, while the name of the village comes form the ivy, that grew up on the old elms in the area.
Today, in the village of Brashlen there is a monument of the locas who participated in the Shipka epopee and a large Orthodox church. Each year the village celebrates its fair on November 7th, while also celebrating the holidays of Trifon's Day and Easter.
