Israeli companies invest in Plovdiv
Interview with H.E. Mr. Shaul Kamisa Raz, Ambassador of the State of Israel to the Republic of Bulgaria
Apart from an attractive business and investment destination for Asian companies, Plovdiv is a proven partner of Israel. For the past years Israeli companies have invested almost 15 million in agricultural sector and production. These sectors are very attractive for investors. Israeli companies are also interested in investing in industrial zones and the production development.
- Mr. Ambassador, what makes Plovdiv more attractive in comparison with other cities in Bulgaria and will turn it into a centre of Israeli investments in Bulgaria?
- There are several arguments in favour of my favourite city. It is located in the center of Bulgaria, it has a rich history and beautiful architecture, archaeology, which attract tourists ... All elements of city life complement the choice of investors. There is the very important event from the history of the two nations - the rescue of Bulgarian Jews right here 70 years ago, thanks to the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, the Plovdiv Diocese and the bishop of that time and then Patriarch Kiril. There are people who remember those years. Today the church and society are in cooperation. So I think that the centre is here and the place is nice. I believe that many investors will come and invest capital in this area because it would be a good investment in the future.
- In which sectors of the economy do Israeli entrepreneurs prefer to invest?
- In the industry - for the needs of Bulgaria and export, export to other countries. Mainly in the food industry, agriculture, farming ... Soon there will be planted a plantation of apples and other crops are being prepared for planting. This process does not begin now, there are investments in the real estate sector, buildings, healthcare; it exists. Now we are doing new additions in cooperation with the municipality. I.e. it goes up, but not back.
