Modern Museum to Attract Tourists to Island near Sozopol
A modern museum on a world level is to be built on the isle of St. St. Kirik and Yulita, near the Black Sea resort of Sozopol. This is what the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Rossen Plevneliev announced. The museum is to be located in the building of the naval school on the island, which the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works donated to the Ministry of Culture a few days ago.
The building has an area of 2,467 sq.m. and it will house archeological finds discovered at the Black Sea coastal area. The working name of the cultural facility is Museum of the Black Sea Civilization. The idea is for it to be part of the bigger archeological reserve formed in the area which includes the big number of archeological excavations on the island and the architectural monuments in Sozopol.
“This way we will attract tourists not only with our beaches but with our rich history as well. It is time we focused our efforts on quality cultural tourism”, stated Minister Plevneliev. He added that the project will also put an end to the numerous investment attempts on the island in the last few years.
