EU Buys Building in the Center of Sofia
The European institutions will move to a new building in the center of Sofia after the European Parliament’s Budget Committee allowed the signing of the deal before a notary public. This is what an announcement of the press office of MEP Ivaylo Kalfin reads.
The new premises are located at 124 Georgi Rakovski Str., not far from Slaveykov Square, in a new seven-storey business center. The deal is expected to be concluded by the end of March, as the agreed price is 9 million euro.
For this price the European institutions will get a property with an area of some 2,523 sq.m., with offices, conference rooms and an underground parking lot. This means that the EU bodies will get a building whose square meter costs 3,567 euro. The building will also have offices for the MEPs and EU Commissioners visiting the country. If the deal is successful this will be the first building of such proportions sold in Sofia in the last year.
The investor in the business center will conclude the finishing works inside the building by the end of September 2011 after which the representatives of the European institutions can move in. At present the European institutions are renting out offices with an area of 1,518 sq.m. in the building of the British Embassy which are not only not big not enough for the employees but they are also difficult to access due to the limited access to the embassy.
