Bulgaria ranked in top 10 countries to visit
The British travel guide Rough Guides ranked Bulgaria as the eighth best country for tourists this year. Countries such as Ethiopia, Madagascar, Brazil, Turkey and Japan all ranked above the Bulgaria, but Rough Guides highlighted it as an "intriguing destination", thanks to its picturesque beaches, low prices and welcoming locals.
Bulgaria's Black Sea resorts are predicted to bring in the most visitors due to a rise in popularity of cycling, hiking and skiing.
"A sort of cheaper alternative to Croatia it is currently far less touristy," the UK publisher said.
Things Rough Guides recommends not missing include the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia, as well as the Rila Monastery and Mount Vitosha, just outside the capital city.
The ranking will help to boost Bulgaria's tourism industry in a year in which agents are already predicting a rebound for investment activity. Buyers looking to benefit from rising tourist numbers or holidaymakers attracted to holiday homes during their stay may well help to boost the country's reputation again among overseas buyers.
