Bulgaria's Vitosha Mountain to Host Third Edition of Snowkite Festival on March 3-6

Goli peak on Bulgaria's Vitosha mountain will host the third edition of the Vitosha Snowkite Fest between March 3 and 6.

Snowkiting traces its origins to three other popular sports – skiing, snowboarding and kitesurfing. In Bulgaria, the higher parts of Vitosha are considered as the best place for snowkiting as the altitude means there is snow cover for an average of three months a year.

The location of the mountain surrounded by valleys and lower mountains is the reason for the unending winds higher up on Vitosha. Vitosha's closeness to Sofia and the availability of convenient transport connections makes it the most popular mountain among snowkiters.

The plateau-like relief around its highest peak Cherni vrah provides unlimited opportunities for snowkiting. The idea behind the festival is to gather practicing snowkiters as well as to present it to those unfamiliar with the sport.

The event also aims to show the pleasure in communicating with the environment without harming it. The organisers of the event are planning interesting accompanying events such as free beginners' lessons, exhibition of kite equipment, creating a mini park with devices for trick performances.

Everything will be filmed by a drone and the shooting will be turned into a short movie. The organisers are planning a follow-up event, which will include a photo and video competition on the topic of snowkite.

The organisers are informing that the holding of the festival will depend on the meteorological conditions, with the following weekend – March 12 and 13 designated as reserve dates for the event.
