Leisure time in Stara Zagora

2006-10-04   |  John Lindley,Bulgarian Properties, Plovdiv office, 19th January 2006

There is plenty to do and enjoy in Stara Zagora. There are parks, shops, art galleries, restaurants, cafes, places of historical interest and a colourful night life - there is something for everybody and more. For those that just want to chill out try sitting in one of the many pavement side cafes on a cool summers day and just enjoy watching the world go by.
Stara Zagora is surrounded by beautiful parks but the best one is in the town itself. Metodil Koussev Park is a vast botanical garden spread over 2600 km and in the park there is a zoo, jogging alleys and numerous sporting facilities. A truly unique experience, sport and leisure within an exotic location.
Shops are everywhere and you could spend a whole morning just finding your way around, so a good meal to recharge your batteries is definitely in order.

Try the Venezia Restaurant near the centre of the town were inside there are ruins from Bulgarian and Roman history strewn around the numerous tables and chairs. The place is very atmospheric, you actually see the chef doing the cooking and the favourite dish on the menu has to be the chicken fillet.
Spend a few moments at the Samara flag monument, situated at the east end of the city and dedicated to the Russian troops of Samara who liberated the town in 1878 from the Turks. It is an extremely large structure unlike any that you have ever seen before. If you still have time and science and technical subjects are one of your interests then the Youri Gagorin astronomical observatory and planetarium could be for you.

The day is drawing to a close. What do you do? Go to the Show Bar select in the centre of town of course. If you have ever been to a Hard Rock Café in London or Rome you will probably have a good idea as to what it is going to be like. You will be right but it is even better – very chic and cool. Before you go back to your hotel have a Zagorka beer, very sparkling with a good aroma and pleasant to taste - brewed and bottled in Stara Zagora since 1958. If you would like to stay longer there are many types of properties for sale available with in the town and the surrounding villages at a fraction of the cost of other notable European destinations, like France and Spain. If you would like to stay in a place that is relatively cheap and with plenty of diverse things to do maybe Stara Zagora could be the place for you.
