Tourism Revenues in Bulgaria Up by 5.45%
Bulgaria has banked over EUR 1.557 B from foreign holidaymakers in the first nine months of 2006, the deputy head of the State Tourism Agency reported.
Compared to the same period in 2005, the number of foreign tourists coming to Bulgaria has gone up by 5.39% and the revenues have increased by 5.45%.
Still, Bulgaria's development pace is lagging behind that of dynamic markets like those of Ireland, Norway and the UK, Stanislav Novakov added as quoted by Investor.bg.
Novakov spoke at a meeting on the future of Bulgaria's tourism industry held within the South-Eastern Europe Economical Forum and he explained that tourism makes up for 14% of the country's GDP.
About 140,000 people are employed in the tourism sector, representing some 4% of the employment rate in Bulgaria.
The country still has a lot to focus on, however, with the quality of tourist services, staff qualification and infrastructure improvements coming atop the list.
