Stanishev: Bulgaria Has Suffered Enough
If Bulgaria were a dangerous place, would so many British citizens invest in real estates and settle in Bulgaria, Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev asked in Brussels
"The Bulgarian people have suffered enough to deserve the country's accession to the EU on January 1, 2007," said Bulgaria's Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev in Brussels in front of 90 journalists from all leading European media. He added that to him Bulgaria's accession in 2008 was not an issue for discussion. An immigrant wave of Bulgarians will not flood Europe. We will not take the jobs of either British or other European workers, the PM continued answering questions of English and Irish reporters. "Do not be naive, the same concerns were voiced before Portugal and Spain's accession but nothing of the kind happened," Stanishev said and asked: "If Bulgaria were a dangerous place, would so many British citizens invest in real estates and settle in Bulgaria?"
