Possible contractors examine Danube Bridge II spot
Representatives of the five foreign companies that the European Commission (EC) defined as eligible to take part in the Danube Bridge II construction examined the spot in Vidin and on the Romanian bank on Thursday, news agencies reported.
Companies’ officials have known the requirements and circumstances over which they are preparing their offers. The deadline for handing the projects to the Transport Ministry is Sept. 15th. Simeon Evtimov, engineer in charge of the responsible group declared that the building ground was fixed and the procedure for its taking was running. Local officials recommended that contestants may hire local firms for some works on the project.
EC admitted six consortiums in the short list of the contractors of the Vidin-Kalafat bridge. One of the companies however gave up because of the long procedure. The building contract will be signed in December and the deadline for the construction start is up to six months later. 38 months are planned for the total facility construction and it is expected to be ready by the end of 2009.
The second Bulgarian bridge over the Danube river will cost EUR 230 million (US$290 million). The project for the facility is co-financed by the Bulgarian government and EC as it supported by Brussels through Phare and ISPA program.
