Bulgaria courses gain official licence
Bulgaria is having something of a tourism boom at the moment, what with ski resorts such as Bansko and seaside resorts on the Black Sea.
Now its Ihtiman and Sliven golf courses have gained an official licence to use the handicap index system of the American Golf Association, according to the Sofia News Agency, so now there is even more reason to check out some of Europe's best-kept secrets.
The Ihtiman golf course has an index of 71.3 for pro golfers and 131 for the rest of us mere mortals. The statistics also show that the course is complex and should prove challenging for holidaymaking golfers.
Located 40 kilometres from the capital Sofia, the Ihtiman course also has a hotel that will keep your family entertained with a range of sport and leisure activities.
The Sliven course has been renamed the Sliven Golf Links and it is said to look something like courses on the Scottish coast. It is located near Burgas in the east of the country.
