Budget boarding in biggest Bulgarian resort Borovets
Skiing is becoming more and more popular in eastern Europe, and Bulgaria is no exception.
The resort of Borovets, located 1,350 metres above sea level, is the largest in the country and offers a range of activities including ice skating and, for the particularly brave, ski jumping, as well as traditional skiing and snowboarding.
Pistes at the resort will suit skiers of all abilities and the area is also renowned for its cross-country tracks. Snow cannons producing artificial snow ensure that there is always something to ski on, but with permanent snow coverage between November and May it is unlikely that you'll be disappointed on that front.
There is plenty to do when you've finished on the slopes, too – lots of restaurants, bars and shops will keep you interested.
Borovets is easily reached from the Bulgarian capital Sofia, which is located 72 kilometres away.
