A Balkans Golf Center to Be built near Town of Razlog
The town of Razlog could turn into a Balkans golf center and training academy. This is what the investors in the 5-star complex Pirin Golf and Country Club claim. The total investment in the mega project is about 100 million leva as it includes the building of a whole neighborhood with hotels and residential buildings.
On an area of 150 hectares besides the golf course there are also holiday homes and commercial areas.
The club has two golf courses – the first one has 18 holes and has been designed by British professional golf player Ian Woosnam. The second course was done by a young designer company from Germany. If one wants to use the golf courses they will need a handicap certificate issued by the Bulgarian Golf Association or by another golf association.
The training course is supplied with video equipment and is managed by Nikolay Stanev, the only professional golfer in Bulgaria at the moment. According to him with the development of golf courses in Bulgaria part of them will attract the elite players and the rest will be a place for a game of golf for the mass public.
”By building the golf club the region’s potential will develop. This is already a year-round tourist destination”, says Nikolay Kaloyanov, executive director of company Balkanstroy AD. The company is a main shareholder and executor of the project.
According to Mr. Kaloyanov 30 golf courses are not too much for Bulgaria as his argument is that after the changes the Czech Republic built 90 golf courses.
“Golf is a strategic possibility for Bulgaria to develop its tourism industry. We have beautiful nature but we lack the infrastructure. Besides, the land is parceled out between different owners”, he added.
The company is also planning to develop the ski slopes in the Kulinoto area, which is set about 12 km from the town of Razlog. The new ski zone will increase Bulgaria’s image as a ski destination.
