Austrias EVN Unveils Long-Term Plans for Bulgaria
Austrias EVN, unveiled plans to invest in waste recycling, gas distribution, water services and the purchase and building of power stations in Bulgaria, chair of EVN Bulgarias board, Stefan Szyszkowitz, said.
EVN is already majority owner and operator of electricity distribution companies in Plovdiv and Stara Zagora. Szyszkowitz said the company is weighing opportunities to build waste recycling plants in these two cities.
Besides, the company has not discarded plans to join the natural gas market although it twice failed to get a gas distribution licence for the Trakia and western regions. Now, it prepares to join licensing tenders for ski resort Bansko and some of the nations coastal towns. Local power regulator is to shortly open the procedures.
When it comes to water sector, EVN will seek to buy equity in the water utilities of Bourgas, Plovdiv and Stara Zagora. According to Szyszkowitz, the investment in the water sector should employ the build-operate-transfer scheme.
EVN plans to pursue the acquisition of the district heating companies in Plovdiv and Rousse and to participate in the rehabilitation of power stations in the Maritsa Iztok coal basin in partnership with other companies.
