Airport concession in Bulgaria receives go-ahead
The Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC) approved the concession of the coastal airports in Varna and Bourgas.
CPC approved the selection of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management as the concession winner, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported.
A press release of the commission said that the issuing of one license presupposed monopoly regardless of the company selected as concession winner.
The concessionaire could not increase sharply airport taxes as such fees were state-regulated, the statement said.
An eventual increase in the leading position of one company would fail affecting competition in the sector negatively, the CPC decision said.
The deal was going to play a positive role for the development of Black Sea tourism in Bulgaria and was going to improve the airport infrastructure there, CPC said.
