2006-09-27   |  the Sofia Echo, 2nd August 2006

Nearly 700 000 tourists are expected to visit the Balchik Palace by the end of the summer season, director of the Balchik cultural institute Toshko Giaurov said.
By the end of August the number of visitors would reach 600 000, which was the total for 2005, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported.
On August 20 only, 5000 people visited the archaeological complex, BTA reported.
Giaurov said that the interest of Romanian tourists towards the palace was on the rise. The palace was constructed between 1926 and 1937 to serve as the residence of Romania's Queen Marie.
By the end of the summer season the number of Romanian visits to the Balchik Palace would reach 50 000, Giaurov said.
The entrance fee for both Bulgarian and foreign visitor was 10 leva this season. The funds were used for maintenance of the palace and its botanical garden, BTA reported.
