Varna Airport opens after renovation

Varna Airport is announced to open on 29.02.2012 and it is ready to welcome guests and tourists from various destinations. The airport will renew operations after it was closed for a few months for renovation. The project of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management for renovation of the airport pistes, in which the company invested nearly 40 million BGN, sgarted on 15th Oct, 2011. The building works were completed and on 19th January they started testing the newly-built flight areas. Ski resort of Bansko hosts the World Ski Cup

China Invests in Agricultural Land in Bulgaria

The Chinese state company Tianjin Agribusiness Company made its first investment in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture informed today. The company rented 20,000 decares of land in Bulgaria's Northwestern Region (near the town of Vidin) on which it will grow corn, forage, and sunflower. This is the first stage of the 10 million euro project as the company intends to invest 20 million euro more in Bulgarian agriculture with some of the funds going into animal breeding. Company representatives came to Bulgaria as early as in spring and stated their intentions to invest in the country’s agricultural sector. They said they were planning to rent up to 100,000 decares as part of them can be in the area of Elhovo and Yambol.The agricultural produce will be exported to China for the company’s needs. More interest in agricultural land in Vidin region

The deals with properties in Vidin (Northwestern Bulgaria) are increasing, as for some of the quarters this year the increase is up to 80%. This is what Polina Stoykova – operations manager in a real estate agency – told Radio Focus -Vidin. This increase is mainly due to the deals with agricultural land, but there are also more deals with apartments, Ms Stoykova explained. The arable land in the region of Vidin is amongst the cheapest in the country and this stirs the interest of the buyers. The average prices of land this year are about 300 leva/decare (about 153 Euro) as there is a slight increase compared to last year. Unique mosaic discovered in Stara Zagora

A unique mosaic was discovered by archaeologists in the city of Stara Zagora in Bulgaria. The mosaic depicts the three figures of Bacchus and two bacchantes, all companions from the suite of God Dionysus. The mosaic is a unique finding for Bulgaria. The Shoumen Fortress Becomes National Tourist Site

According to real estate company BULGARIAN PROPERTIES prices of rural properties in the Yambol area (southeastern Bulgaria) have decreased considerably in the last year – by 21%. If in 2008 the average price of a house in the countryside was 16,300 Euro now it is 12,900 Euro. This means that in the length of a year prices in the area collapsed which means there might be further decrease this year as well. Meanwhile, thanks to this decrease buyers have shown bigger interest in properties in the area, the real estate agency says. However, this time it is not only British buyers who are interested in the properties but also Russians and representatives of other European nationalities. The longest bicycle path in Bulgaria will be constructed after a project for widening and reconstruction of the road from the village of Smilyan to the town of Rudozem (southern Bulgaria, close to the Greek border), the Mayor of Rudozem Nikolay Boyadzhiev announced. Archeologists Find Celtic Presence in the Area of Rousse

During excavation works at the Roman fortress Sexaginta Prista near the town of Rousse in the autumn of 2009 archeologists found pieces of Celtic pottery. This proves that there was Celtic presence in the area but there is still no proof whether the traces are from Celtic traders or from residents of the fortress.During the last archeological season 25 square meters of the fortress were researched. A large gambling complex is to be constructed close to Sofia Airport. Five Eco Paths Renewed in Town of Bankya

The Sofia Municipality renewed five of a total of 18 eco paths set in the area of the town of Bankya. The paths, whose total length is over 37 km, are located in Lyulin Mountain and are marked with signs and arrows so that they are accessible both to the locals and to Bankya’s guests. The area of Bankya is famous for its mineral springs and is a recognized resort and balneological center and now the guests of the town can also take walks in the mountain, the Mayor of Bankya Region Rangel Markov said at the opening ceremony. The routes of the paths are easy and each of them can be crossed within two and a half hours.
