The Military Airport of Balchik to Become a Civil Airport
The Bulgarian government has decided to give the airport in Balchik to the Ministry of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications. The government intends to turn it into a civil airport.
At present Balchik Airport is an inactive military airport. The change in its function will improve the flight services along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, especially during the high season.
After the renovation of the Varna Airport, which will take place from October 15th 2011 until February 28th 2012, the airport in Balchik will receive only small airplanes and charter flights.
The area around the resort of Balchik boasts three high-quality professional golf courses – the Black Sea Rama, Lighthouse Golf Resort and Thracian Cliffs. The opening of Balchik Airport for civil flights means easier access for the golf fans and tourists to these golf courses and to the beautiful northern Black Sea coast.
