Another bridge above Varna Lake may be constructed in the near future. This is one of the three options for “Cherno More” highway construction.

The first option plans, envisages the route passing over Asparuhov Bridge, but in fact, it is non-applicable, since it would jam the center of the town, as explained in Varna the Transport Minister Petar Mutafchiev. The highway shall be part of Euro corridor no.8, connecting the Albanian town of Duras with Skopje and Bulgarian cities of Burgas and Varna. The third scheme which was promoted a month ago, suggests for the highway to pass through Aytos and Provadia and to join the “Hemus” hihgway. It would save 15 km, however, it would bypass Varna with 55 km.

The construction of second Asparuhov Bridge has also been envisaged in the future general organizational plan of the town. Varna has become one of the first municipalities that have signed contracts for cooperation with the National Tourism Board, managed by Georgi Gergov. Mr. Gergov and the Mayor Kiril Yordanov endorsed the document on Saturday. The local authority and companies of the branch will initiate joint projects for advertising tourism abroad and for attracting funds from the European Union, by the principle of the public-private partnership. Both countries will offer legislative alterations for the development of competitive investment environment in Bulgaria.

Varna Municipality will invest BGN 1 million for the installation of cameras on the crossroads, the entrances and exits of the town as well as in the resorts. Thus, road accidents will be closely monitored and the traffic will be regulated in European manner. The start of the procedure for the selection of an contractor shall be negotiated on Wednesday. We hope that the system will start operating in 2 or 3 month’s term, said the Mayor Kiril Yordanov.
