North Beach in Burgas with Blue Flag
The international jury awarded the Blue Flag to the best beaches and marinas for 2014. Among them there are 11 Bulgarian beaches and one marina, announced the local office of the organisation in Bulgaria.
In Burgas region the certificate for this summer received the following beaches: Burgas North, Duni, Sozopol Harmanite, Pomorie East, Sunny Beach South, Sunny Beach North, Sveti Vlas Iztok-East Beach, Sveti Vlas Central beach, Sveti Vlas Nov-New Beach and Marina Dinevi. The Blue Flag was assigned to the north beaches of Albena and Sunny Day as well.
Beaches were awarded the Blue Flag based on compliance with 32 criteria in four categories: environmental education and information, water quality, environmental management, safety and services. All Blue Flags are awarded for one season at a time. If the criteria are not fulfilled during the season or the conditions change, the Blue Flag may be withdrawn.
Data for winning eco-certificate zones come into the program site (www.blueflag.org), while Bulgarian beaches and marinas are presented with information, photos and a map.
The Blue Flag is a voluntary eco-label awarded to more than 3850 beaches and marinas in 48 countries across Europe, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada and the Caribbean.
The Blue Flag Programme is owned and run by the non-government, non-profit organisation the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
