French skier wins the giant slalom in Borovets
Muffat-Jeandet Victor is the winner in the giant slalom for the European Cup in alpine ski in Borovets. Amid a strong competition held in a flawless organization and a perfectly prepared Popangelov ski run he snatched the victory, followed by Giovanni Borsotti (Italy) and Manuel Feller (Austria). The best Bulgarian result was achieved by young Kamen Zlatov (aged 16) who ranked 35th. A number of 41 racers finished from a total 67.
Muffat-Jeandet had a total time 2:28,75 after being the fastest in the first run with 1:14,03. “This was a very strong contest and my victory makes me really happy”, Muffat-Jeandet Victor said after the competition. “The ski run was perfect with the hardest best quality snow I have skied on this season. Everything here is World cup standard. I hope I will perform well in tomorrow’s contest, too.” Just 2 weeks ago the French racer ranked 7th in the giant slalom for the World Cup in Saint Moritz.
“It was a great race”, Giovanni Borsotti second in the ranking said. “Other racers were really good and the trail and the conditions were perfect. I am really happy with how I skied today.”
Third place is the best ranking to the moment in the European cup giant slalom for Manuel Feller although he started under number 25. I also think that everything here is World cup standard.
Borovets has hosted twice the World cup – in 1981 and in 1984. At the press conference yesterday it was said that Samokov municipality with the cooperation of Bulgarian ski federation and Borosport - manager and operator of all ski trails and facilities in the resort, plans to work toward bringing Borovets back to the calendar of the World cup.
On 15th February between the runs Petar Popangelov and Marc Girardelli - two legends in the ski world made a parallel demo ride under the worm welcome of the audience. On this same run some 30 years ago Girardelli won the slalom for the World cup, while Petar Popangelov finished 11th.
