7 new metro stations will be opened in Sofia next year
Seven new stations will be opened in Sofia in April 2015. They are part of the extension of the first metro line from Tsarigradsko Shosse to the airport and from Mladost 1 to the Business Park.
On April 1st started the construction of a subway station in the district Hladilnika, which should be completed in the beginning of 2016. It is expected that the passengers flow at the new metro lines will be around 116 000 people a day.
The executive director of the capital Metropolitan Stoyan Bratoev explained that the first of the seven new metro stations will be located between Druzhba1 and Druzhba 2, the second in Druzhba 1, on the Iskarsko shose where will be a train station, the next station - in the industrial zone and the other at the airport, near the terminal.
These four stations have to be built by April next year. The other three stations will be in Mladost – between Mladost 1 and the Business Park, under the Aleksandar Malinov Blvd. They are being currently built and should be completed in a year.
The metro lines, which will be opened next year, have a total length of about 8 kilometres for € 116 million, or less than 20 million per kilometre, which is three - four times cheaper in comparison with other countries in Europe.
In the beginning of next year the construction of the third metro line will start, which is expected to be completed in 2018.
