200 Mln BGN to Be Invested in Extending Bansko and Razlog Ski Slopes
There will be debates regarding the development of the Pirin National Park as a year-round tourist destination. This is what the Deputy Mayor of the town of Razlog Ivan Gyurov said.
Investors forecast that the existing ski pistes and paths in the area of Dobrinishte, Bansko and Kulinoto will be extended by about 200 km, their total length reaching 333 km.
New plans for the management of the National Parks of Pirin, Vitosha and Central Balkan are yet to be devised, as the old plans are to expire soon, the Minister of Environment Nona Karadzhova reminded during a press conference in the town of Razlog.
The plan for Pirin National Park in particular is expected to be ready by mid 2011, as serious research is needed to be made. All citizens and non-government organizations will be able to make proposals and take part in the public debates, the Minister pointed out.
Minister Karadzhova added that the region of Pirin has the opportunity to develop into a year-round destination and not only as a ski zone. The region can easily develop both spa and eco tourism. Recently the municipality of Razlog was permitted to use the mineral water deposit in the village of Banya, and the municipality of Bansko was permitted to use the mineral water in Dobrinishte.
We should not put the accent only on winter tourism, said Lyuben Tatarski, former Mayor of Razlog. He reminded that there are already draft designs in place for the development of the zones between Bansko, Dobrinishte and Kulinoto.
The process of extending the ski pistes will take years. If all three projects are executed the way they are planned at the moment their total cost will be about 200 million BGN. Minister Karadzhova promised that sensible decisions will be made for the development of the region.
