338,000 Russians own properties in Bulgaria
338,000 Russians own properties in Bulgaria. The number increased by 10% in 2012 year-on-year, said Boyko Kotsev, Bulgarian Ambassador in Russia, at Intourmarket International Travel Fair in Moscow.
"According to our data, 338,000 Russians have bought property in Bulgaria. But this is only the official statistics. Actually Russians have bought more. I think Bulgaria is popular because we have similar culture, the same alphabet, people in Bulgaria understand Russian language, even if not all are speaking. Russians feel more comfortable in Bulgaria than in the Western Europe,” he said.
According to the Ambassador, a few years ago, Russians often were buying apartments at prices starting from EUR 55,000 and more, but today most of the purchased apartments are cheap, ranging from EUR 20,000 to EUR 55,000. Most often these are cheap apartments, which Russians are used for summer vacations. "85% of the apartments are bought on the Black Sea coast and just 15% - in the Bulgarian ski resorts," he added.
